Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal civil rights law that ensures students with disabilities have equal access to education. Under Section 504, schools must provide accommodations and support so that students with a physical or mental impairment can fully participate in classroom instruction, school activities, and programs.

Students who qualify for a Section 504 Plan may receive accommodations or services tailored to their individual needs. These accommodations do not change what a student is expected to learn, but they remove barriers that may impact the student’s ability to access and benefit from their education.

Section 504 is designed to promote equity, protect students’ rights, and ensure that every learner has the support they need to be successful in school.
