Counseling Services

In Riverview we believe that every student is unique and valued. Our counseling staff provides support so that each individual can reach their full potential.

 

Our School Counselors focus on fostering personal, social, emotional, academic, and career growth for students in our diverse community and ever-changing world. Students and parents are encouraged to seek out counselors to help with any questions or concerns.

School Counselors collaborate with teachers, staff, parents, and the larger community to:

​

  • Identify ways to enhance student access to learning opportunities.

  • Advocate for the physical and emotional safety of students at school and at home.

  • Offer school-wide instruction to students in the skills needed to be successful, productive members of a diverse community.​

​

​Here are some of the ways School Counselors assist students:

​​

Personal and Social Development

  • Offering support through personal challenges emotional ups and downs, and tough times.

  • Providing confidential individual and group counseling.

  • Offering referrals for off-campus information and services.

  • Supporting student's changes in attitude and behavior.

  • Assisting with family and friendship challenges.

  • Providing help with peer mediation and conflict resolution.

Academic Development

  • Assisting students with course selection and helping in the transitions from elementary school to middle school and middle school to high school.

  • Offering suggestions to help students succeed academically.

  • Teaching students how to effectively communicate with teachers.

  • Supporting students to self-advocate, set goals, and grow academically.​​

​

Career Development

  • Helping students identify and maximize their strengths and interests.

  • Providing information about opportunities that will enhance and enrich their educational and career goals.

  • Identifying career goals, and opportunities to achieve those goals.

  • Guiding students toward future education and training opportunities.​​

Through Riverview School District’s partnership with Hazel Health, all enrolled students now have access to a licensed Hazel online therapist at no cost to families. Riverview also partners with Community Mental Health Counselors who provide mental health support and resources for students.
